About Ruth
I have taught in independent and state schools for over fourteen years, and alongside my role as a Religious Studies specialist, I have built-up an outstanding reputation in pastoral care through my roles in boarding, mentoring, tutoring and chaplaincy.
This experience means that I have seen students at their most confident as well as at their most fragile- often in the same week! Boarding in particular lets you see how a young person actually is at nine in the evening- when the lesson is over and the worry is still there.
So my job is rarely just explaining content. It is working out what is in the way of the student reaching their potential, removing it, and rebuilding their learning path with them. That is what I offer- not a syllabus recited at a screen, but proper teaching, tailored to the individual.

How I work
The Prentice Approach
Every student is different. As such, I begin by understanding not only where they are academically, but also how they learn best, what motivates them, obstacles that appear to be holding back their progress, and areas where confidence and self-belief has been lost and needs restored.
Support is then built around three things:
- Subject mastery
- genuine understanding, not memorised answers
- Learning habits
- the practical skills that make revision work for the student
- Personal growth
- regaining confidence, strengthening independence, and forging resilience
This is a personalised educational partnership; not a 'one size fits all' service.
